AMERICAN PIE
While President Obama is picnicking at Camp David and Mitt Romney is busy competing in his family Olympiad, ACLU Liberty Watch is hard at work defending the Constitution.
We’re sorry to report thatA an apple pie was pulled over without cause in Arizona. Officers suspected that the pastry didn’t have a recipe after noticing its brown exterior.
This is an outrage—and, unfortunately, a predictable outcome of a bad law. We’re prepared to fight this all the way to the food court.
When we asked the Obama campaign about the incident, a spokesman said that pastry profiling is wrong, and then touted the administration’s work in this area, including the recent CREAM Act directive.
A Romney spokesman declined to comment on policy specifics, and instead reminded us of Obama’s broken promise to pass comprehensive baking reform.
Alas, sometimes it feels like our political leaders treat the law as if it’s some silly pie eating contest.
Have a fun and safe Fourth of July!
