EDITORIAL STATEMENT
Media for the People!
Thank you for reading and sharing Rise Up Times. With a mainstream corporate media that is beholden to powerful financial and political interests that do not have the people at heart, we need to share and discuss information and issues more than ever.
The politics of truth is in the interaction. Factual truth is the bedrock of a free politics. Difference of interpretation and opinion is its process.
—Jeffrey C. Goldfarb, The New School for Social Research
Rise Up Times welcomes dialog and discussion, “difference of interpretation and opinion,” within the editorial guidelines in articles posted and in comments made on posts, but personal attacks and hate speech will be removed.
“We don’t have to engage in grand, heroic actions to participate in the process of change. Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world.” ―
MORE ABOUT RISE UP TIMES
Truth is not fake news. Justice is not fake news.
The primary focuses of Rise Up Times continue to be the media, antimilitary/propeace, and civil liberties. At the same time, Rise Up Times is somewhat eclectic, covering national politics, eco-concerns, and Minnesota issues. Articles from readers who send emails with significant commentary to post, as well as Coleen Rowley’s posts and comments on the Rise Up Times Facebook page, make Rise Up Times a community of contributors.
Rise Up Times is concerned about the rise of totalitarianism and fascism and suppression of democracy, particularly in the United States but also across the globe. Free discussion is necessary to any government truly by the people.
Resistance is no longer an option, it is now a matter of life or death. The lights are going out on democracy across the globe and the time to wake up from this nightmare is now. —Henry A. Giroux
Rise Up Times posts articles about a variety of issues:
“There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives.” —Audre Lorde
Carl Sandburg knew:
The people yes. The people will live on. …
In the darkness with a great bundle of grief the people march.
In the night, and overhead a shovel of stars for keeps, the people
march:
“Where to? what next?”
—Carl Sandburg

Sue Ann, sometime during the past few weeks a few WordPress websites (that I am aware of) were reported as “suspicious” to an anti-virus software company that keeps a database of known sources of malware, etc. Webroot is generally pretty good, but when I created my own blog last year, it was rated as “moderate risk” because it was brand new and it was an unknown website, and so that’s how they categorized it. So I contacted them and they directed me to a website where I could request a re-evaluation, and they did. Then recently I created a new blog, and even though it had nothing at all posted on it, it was suddenly rated as “suspicious” within a week – but so was my original blog – it changed. I believe that someone reported my websites for nefarious reasons, and I had to re-submit my blogs again for re-evaluation. They went from “suspicious” back to “moderate risk” for now. During this time, I saw that ‘Rise Up Times’ website was suddenly also rated as “suspicious.” While this kind of thing won’t even be noticed by the vast majority of people, those who have Webroot and who do Google searches, for example, will see an orange icon (rather than green or even yellow) next to whatever post shows up from your website on those Google searches; this is meant to warn internet users that clicking on the link may increase the likelihood of exposure to malware or computer virus. For the most part, this has always been reliable, but as I said, sometime during the past month a few WordPress blogs (such as my own) suddenly had the status changed (without cause) to a “suspicious” rating. I contacted WordPress (never heard back from them about it) and Webroot as well. They have a database on a sister website known as Bright Cloud; so I filled out the form on that website (I had a conversation with Webroot tech support over the phone) and requested a change in status (again). This might be something that you may want to investigate, as it may end up resulting in less readership, etc. You can contact WordPress, but as I mentioned, they never got back to me. Here is the link to the Bright Cloud website; I recommend that you consider submitting a review of your website so that the status changes from suspicious to at least “moderate risk.” It may take a little while for them to look into it, but they are supposed to contact you. Here is the link:

Dropping in to express my appreciation for picking up the article on US corporate media ‘liar, liar, with pants on fire.’ I didn’t see an email address, so leaving the message here.

Sue Ann, You have posted on the CISPOS web site adverrtising a program with Max Blumenthal, a strong defender of the brutal regime of Bashar al-Assad. This is very much at odds with our understanding in CISPOS that Assad is a major war criminal, who bombs, tortures, imprisons and kills tens of thousand of innocent people. We appreciate that you see the heavily trafficked CISPOS facebook page as an attractive place to post your views. However, the Rise Up Times facebook page blocks me from posting my views. In CISPOS we are happy to exchange viewpoints with those with whom we disagree. A civil exchange of view is helpful in the search of truth. But the access must be mutual. You will no longer be able to post on CISPOS if you do not soon reciprocate the permission we have given you. Kind regards, Andy Berman 4/19/17

The problem, of course, is that in your constant bashing of the Assad regime you ignore the that the US is also a major war criminal that has killed tens of thousands, no millions, of people in pursuit of empire and resources, with your refusal to recognize that the war in Syria is a geopolitical war. The US bombs, tortures, imprisons and kills daily in the Middle East. And is now threatening a totally unnecessary war with North Korea. (Not that I am asserting that you are a Trump supporter.) The US is largely responsible for creating the many many Syrian and other refugees in the Middle East. How can my heart not go out to them? The US, in pursuit of Empire and world domination, wishes to bring Assad under its heel and will do anything it can to crush Syria. There is not proof that this last chemical weapons assault was Assad. No the contrary, there is evidence it was not.
Remember that the neo-cons under Bush threatened to take out 7 countries: Global Warfare: “We’re going to take out 7 countries in 5 years: Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Iran..” (I can’t get the link to work, but you may wish to google that article.) That’s still what the war in Syria is about. War is never the answer.
I do not find it necessary to post on the CISPOS page. I have not done so before and most likely will not do so again. The excellent article I posted which you decry presented an alternative point of view that is in my opinion well-reasoned by intelligent people who understand the issues. You are very polite now, but certainly were hardly polite at all in your comments and accusations when I banned you from what was then the a WAMMToday page, which it no longer is, although I still maintain ties to WAMM as you know.
